What to Do in Québec City When It’s Cold Outside
The freezing temperatures of January have now arrived in Québec City! The Siberian cold seems to be here to stay, so we rather like to remain comfortably warm inside. Fortunately, there are all kinds of fun activities to do in Québec City without the need to go outside.
A place that is worth a visit is Centre d’amusement Carie Factory, located in Hotel Must near the airport. With its selection of more than 45 arcades at will, this centre will please the adults and the kids. This is going to be a fun family activity!
Why not take this opportunity to do some shopping? Sainte-Foy District, with its multiple malls, is surely the best place to do that! There we find the really busy Place Sainte-Foy, Place de la Cité and Laurier Québec, all three located on boulevard Laurier.
At the centre of Lebourgneuf District, there is the very popular Galeries de la Capitale. This mall, besides hosting many trendy stores, offers an interesting entertainment experience including an indoor amusement park (reduced for now, under renovation) and the Cinéma IMAX, the movie theatre with the biggest screen in the country, which also sometimes shows movies in 3D!
Speaking of movie theatres, this is the best activity to do when it’s cold outside! Québec City has a high concentration of movie theatres: there is two Cineplex, one in Sainte-Foy, near Hotel Must and Hotel Québec Inn, and the other in Beauport, the Cinéma Cartier downtown, and Le Clap, in La Pyramide in Sainte-Foy.
For an activity that will undoubtedly generate the wonder of children, a visit to the Aquarium du Québec is a must! With more than 10,000 marine animals and many discovery activities, this is the place to be for curious children.
Do you want to exercise? Why not try iSaute trampoline park, a place where the entire family will have fun by jumping everywhere? Your children will sleep like babies at the end of the day, it’s a promise!
There is also many indoor climbing centres in Québec City: Délire Escalade in Sainte-Foy and Beauport, and Roc Gyms. It’s also possible to rock climb at the Peps, the university sports centre, in addition to several other activities like ice skating, indoor golf, and bathing.
For an original activity, we recommend Défi-Évasion and À Double Tour, two interactive games where you need to crack some riddles in order to escape before there is no time left. These two absorbing games are perfect to occupy a freezing January afternoon because it gives us a complete change of scenery for a moment: it feels like we are teleported into another world!
If you are rather looking for a cultural activity, you can visit one of the numerous museums of the city. The Musée de la Civilisation, located near the Port of Québec, offers many exhibitions exploring multiple aspects of the society and the human nature. Until March 11, 2018, the museum presents the Mad about Brains exhibition that showcases the mysteries of the human brain. An exhibition about Québec’s history and another on Aboriginal cultures are also permanently presented.
The Musée national des beaux-arts du Québec is the ideal location to dive into the culture and the arts of Québec. Currently, the museum presents, among others, an exhibition on the painters Joan Mitchell and Jean-Paul Riopelle, two masters of Québec’s modern art, an exhibition on Québec’s contemporary art and another on decorative arts and design. A visit that will surely delight your senses.
For a nice evening, go to Ginger to enjoy a live show presented from Monday to Saturday, while you savour a glass of wine or a cocktail from its impressive menu.
