Maple sugar season in Québec City
Maple sugar season is almost here in Québec City! This period usually lasts from 4 to 6 weeks, from mid-March to the end of April. It’s the moment when the sugar shacks collect the sap of the sugar maple trees to make varied products, including the famous maple syrup. Besides, did you know that the province of Québec provides 2/3 of the world production of maple syrup? Quite impressive, right?

But maple sugar season, it’s so much more than this! It’s also the moment when families and friends are gathering to enjoy a good meal at a sugar shack. These places serve traditional Québec meals in a welcoming and lively atmosphere. Ham, baked beans, meat pies, crispy pork rinds, pea soup and, obviously, a good dose of maple syrup are, among others, on the menu!
Any getaway to the sugar shack ends with a maple taffy tasting. The maple syrup is heated, then put on fresh snow. The syrup solidifies a bit because of the cold snow, then it’s possible to collect it with a little stick. All that remains is to enjoy it!
